Melasma is a common problem in which there is an increased production of brown pigment (melanin.). it occurs in sun-exposed areas of the face. Firstly it affects mostly Child bearing women. However Up to 10% of cases have been reported in the males. Secondly Latinos and Asians are affected more then other races. In addition it is more apparent during and after periods of sun exposure. However, it is lacking in winter months, when sun exposure is less.
